This is the 'goal 2' trailer this ha inspired our group to do a sport based film as it shows the life of a young football hopeful who is trying to fulfill is ambition . some of the scenes used in this trailer have inspired us for ideas for our film sequence. Also the fast pace of this trailer inspired us to use fast paced editing in our opening sequence

This is the trailer for rocky 3 it is inspiring to our film sequence as rocky is growing up as a person who is quite hopeless at persuing a future boxing career as it is the same with ashleys football. it shows dedication and his will to make his way to the top of the world and be one of the most recognized faces ever, and ashley in our film hopes to do the very same.

This is a trailer for bend it like beckham. From this trailer we have been inspired to use the shots were a ball is seen kicked three times very fast. We feel this will be a good part to use in our film sequence.

Costumes: Football kit, Suit

INSPIRED BY...

The goal trailer is inspiring, as it is a football based film and the editing is the way we want it to be. The editing is fast, like we want ours to be, to create tension and interest the audience. We have got ideas from close ups on the ball to emphasize the genre of the film. The fast-beat music in the background complements the fast paced editing, therefore this is the music we would like to use.

Planning =]

As our opening of the film is a sport genre, we are setting it on a football pitch. We are focusing on introducing the character and the setting.
LYNDSAY

We have devised a storyboard to figure out the camera angles and the shots we are going to use etc. This is important as we need to fulfill all of the criteria of an opening sequence. The opening we are creating is inspired by a film named 'Goal'

We aren't going to be using dialogue, therefore do not need to come up with a script. As Ash is going to be training for football, his costume will simply be a football training kit. However, as Saad is acting as some kind of football scout, he will be dressed in something formal to show the audience he is a significant part of the story, and also creates enigmas.

We have decided to use memorial park as our location to film our sequence. We have chosen it because it is a football field with nets that will be perfect for our filming.

This is the video we created! we have learnt that using similar angles for each shot takes away the realism of the piece. We now know to make shots different to ensure the piece runs smoothly. Using these similar shots creates jump cuts and makes the sequence jolty.  However, we did use some different shots, such as mid shots to close ups, which created realism.
Also, we haven't used any special transitions, except from a fade in at the beginning, because we wanted the piece to be as natural as possible.
Another thing which we could have improved was the poor sound. As each shot was taken, different sounds could be heard in the background which takes away the involvement of the audience from the piece. Therefore, when we film we will make sure to perform any dialogue in quiet locations.

Figures and budgets

After researching the box office figures and budgets for Bend it like Beckham i have found that it made £11,551,538 at cinemas. This shows it is a pretty popular genre.

The genre of film sequence we wish to make is fairly popular at the moment as many people are into football, and the main age of people interested in football are teens. As teens are one of the main ages that go to the cinema, our film genre would be very popular.

Audience

The target audience of our film sequence is teenagers (mainly boys) as the football genre is of more interest to them.

W have done some research from the BFI handbook and found that the largest age group of regular cinema goers is 15 - 34 with 41.5% in one year, therefore this will make our film sequence more successful as it is targeted at this audience.

The importance of opening sequences

There are many different reasons for the opening sequence of a film to be important. Some of these reasons include:

Establishing the setting - This is an important feature, as in order for an audience to understand a film they need to know where the film is based. The setting of a film can also establish the genre, for example a sci-fi film would be set in space and have futuristic objects to create connotations of science fiction.

Establishing the genre - Also is a very important feature, This will decide ultimately weather this is the film for the people who love the genre. Also if they are fond of the genre they are able to have a clearer and better understand of the narrative, this feeds off connotation to the other viewers who are not so fond of the genre.

Another important feature is introducing characters, this is used so that the audience can relate to the characters and understand there role in the film. Therefore they feel included in the film and close to the characters. It also creates the scene for the story and may also be used to create enigmas .
ASH

Enigmas - It is important to raise enigmas in the opening sequence of a film as it leaves the audience wondering what is going to happen next and keeps them glued to the film. Enigmas are questions that are answered later in the film and by leaving the questions open at the beginning of a film, it means the audience are left guessing which keeps them hooked in the film.

Day 2

Today we decided to browse youtube and find possible songs we could incorporate in our opening sequence. We have two possible tracks to use and these are: Muse-map of the problematique and Air Traffic-shooting star.
We have still to decide which song we will definitely use.

Day 1 - the decision process :)

Today we are deciding what our final idea is going to be. We have struggled to come up with an idea which could work properly, but we have talked about it as a group and come up with one!

We have decided to create a sport genre sequence aimed at teens. To show this, we are going to focus on one character trying to pursue his ambition, a football career. As a group, we are going to film him training and in the clips we will show a scout watching him at his very best.
We are planning to use non-diegetic music, as this adds a certain sense of excitement and tension. Also, at the end of the clip, ambient sounds of kicking a football and heavy breathing add realism to the piece and allow the audience to relate to the sequence.

Time compressions such as fast and slow motion will be used.
